Hello Mousehunt Heroes and welcome to Stormy Halloween! This Mibbler has a bit of a long intro and warming up today before coming to the point (and facts)… just like the Mousehunt Halloween update had a Spooky Start before it started… O.o
If you wanna skip the story, just jump to the current Q&A on Halloween, a little down this Mibbler.
* More teasers… a purple one this time
As if we hadn’t noticed before, or as if even more teasing was needed … ah well: it’s Halloween after all, the dev’s can trick or treat just as much as they want to, cant they?! And late on Monday another teaser appeared for this Halloween event, the little purply witch (was the purple a coincidence there?) looks heavenly:
* Tuesday: Halloween starting with glitches
We were all eagerly awaiting the Halloween update on tuesday, being rather certain it would come on tuesday, especially after last saturday’s post on the FB-Hitgrab-page:
“Working on a Saturday afternoon to get the MouseHunt Halloween event ready! The whole team is excited! Will you treat your friends, or trick them instead? Happy Halloween!”
Then the discussion boards showed more and more messages of Glitches being around. The glitches ranged from weird repeated travel reports, to funky catches as the catches seemed to appear and then disappear at will, or getting a lot and i mean a LOT of the same mice in a row…
Maybe there were even more serious glitches, by this time i just had to get going and get something done In Real Life (IRL).
* A Call for help from the devs: please squeez your Teddy’s & Bunny’s
When i got back, it was my (almost in gmt) Tuesday evening, and Halloween had not started yet. Instead i found this news on the Mousehunt fanpage:
“The MouseHunt team was eager to kick-off the Halloween event today but some unforeseen server maintenance took priority. We’re still working on maintenance but are optimistic the event will start this week. Sorry for any confusion and happy hunting!”
Dave said: if you have a Teddy Bear in your inventory, now’s tha time to hug it!”
It didn’t seem to help a lot though. Glitches continued and even worsened on the hunter’s-end of things. An hour later we got the following announcement, accompanied by a little video-message:
“Having problems with the game right now? A few Facebook apps are having problems with links, buttons, forms and discussion boards. In the meantime, feel free to try our Facebook Connect version of the game at http://www.mousehuntgame.com”
Georgio phrased it like this in the accompanying video: “We are currently at the mercy of facebook developers to find out what’s going on. And we’ll keep working through the night to fix this issue.”
These worsening glitches brought out some dear memories (although not for all of us): Doug, former Nibbler-reporter memorized: “Remember the Great MouseHunt shutdown in 2008 that lasted for a couple of days? It was sometime around this time of year…..”
* Waiting on Wednesday… and waiting… then: the update!
Although the game was glitchy indeed, the dev’s still dared to try and do the Halloween update sometime on Wednesday… They themselves were eager to go on with it and show the world their work! Of course it didn’t come up well at once after the update:
“The game update is taking longer than expected. We’ll slowly be letting players back into the game. Thanks for your patience!
* Game coming back on… with hickups
Could we get in? Friends were in. Trying … refreshing your page. All you were getting were these white pages. Or maybe you got in? But … how weird it looked! O.O Was this our Mousehunt? Lots of buttons were missing on the pages, and in some instances the header was repeated down the page like ten times and everything completely scrambled!
I couldn’t resist: i travelled “blind” – clicked on the place where i could remember the buttons used to be … to the Haunted Terrortories. And although i got some early gifts from friends: the Gifts were already again disabled. As are profile Pages were soon to be. And i response, what i heard from mousehunters around me by this time, was that the hunters were generally rather impatient and overly eager to get in and get it all! (Hums: ‘…i want it all, and i want it now!’…)
The dev’s were working around the clock to repair and manage some of the stormy Spooky glitches and problems that arose. They even pleaded for us not to refresh our pages like freaks while they were trying to get things fixed, as that sure caused some heavy traffic to the servers.
At this point i decided to go to bed…
And just before i tucked myself in Mousehunt-fanpage had a titbit of news to tell: “We’re experiencing some technical difficulties including an exploded processor! Thanks for your patience, we’re working hard to get things back up and running.”
Oh yes, i’d better come back tomorrow. And i guess them devs didn’t go to bed or to sleep at all.
And that’s how Halloween started this year. Spooky huh?! :D
=== Forum Features: What’s keeping hunters busy? ====
* Halloween Perfect Storm
In my early morning and in the middle of the Dev-Night, the mousehunt-fanpage finally * sigh * had a newspost up, including a video-message: “The Halloween update is here! We’re still tracking down a few Glitchpaw Mice and wanted to give everyone an update.”
Sleepy eyes & snotty Dave tells about the Crazy Afternoon & Evening on Hitgrab, about what craziness happened, for instance: the Mousehunt application URL was banned on Facebook! Then an exploded processor caused a little fire inside the server… Ah, well i wont list it all, as the dev’s have done a good job writing it all down on the whiteboard for ye. (See the link down here)
In the meantime Hitgrab excitedly lets us know, as this is probably a record of some sorts, especially in the midst of everything going wrong: “Today MouseHunt had 2 million more page views than the previous day.”
The update-video is also about what’s working great … :) the devs are excited about: – new forums, connected with your FB-account, -multiple draw-winners, – new mice, – the pricesystem is up and going!
They are still working on: Gifting, restoring Profiles, integrating the new Forums! and some technical stuff of course: there will be some downtime maintenance coming (for installing a new server probably) some time soon-ish).
See the video called “The Perfect Storm” on the Mousehunt Fanpage.
* How do I start the Halloween event?
– First, visit your own hunter profile and choose if you want to trick, or treat your friends
– Visit up to 10 of your friends’ profiles to go trick-or-treating and collect special cheese
– Travel to the Haunted Terrortories of Gnawnia – Hunt both with Ghoulgonzola and Candy Corn cheese to trick AND treat the mice there!
– Check out Larry’s hunting tips in the Haunted Terrortories for more tips!
This was from a newspost on the Mousehunt fanpage, thank you devs for this short “Howto”.
* Fun bits in the Stormy Spookhouse
I didnt notice right away, but a friend of mine did: “Very funny that the White Mouse is dressed up as Larry!!!” And are the hunters loving the fun dressed up mice? Are you having a tough choice declaring which one is the best?
And what’s that about a Zombot Unipire Mouse? And do i spy new traps? Oh yes, the cackle lantern trap and pumpkin trap:
It takes one seriously evil pumpkin seed to grow a squash so steeped in malevolence, so genuinely nasty that it will sacrifice its brothers and sisters on the vine to smash random passersby… but hey, it makes a great trap mechanism. Mice come in, expecting a festive treat, (and maybe a guy dressed up as a scarecrow jumping out of the bushes), and instead, they come face to face with a real Halloween horror, complete with monster teeth!
Where did all the other pumpkins go? Oh yeah, that’s right… the Cackle Lantern smashed them all. But, out of the remains of his old companions springs a new friend who understands the rigors of carnivorous planthood: a sprout of the Venus Mouse Trap. Together, these two are ready to smash, swallow, and snare any mouse that dares set foot on their trap– just don’t ask them to share the proceeds once they’re done. The immense heat of the lantern occasionally increases Fire Salt drops when hunting in the Jungle of Dread.
There’s more funny stuff of course: not in the least in the form of the Inner Workings of the Haunted TerrorTories! In the next section i have included a Q&A on this – albeit only a first version.
* Q&A on The Haunted TerrorTories – v1.0
Q: I can go to up to 10 profiles to get trick or treat cheese. Do I care which atm? A: You must complete both the Trick AND Treat sides of each area before you can progress to the next. So be sure to get and use both cheese types! So both are needed to find your way out of the Corn Maze.
Q: Then what setup do I use (at first) in the Corn Maze? A: A strong or high luck physical trap will do fine.
Q: And what’s the best way to get more cheese? A:1 Getting gifts from friends – although currently disabled. A2: Hunting with brie (and Target base) in the Haunted Area will give you special cheeses by way of lootdrops.
Q: Will the Trick/Treat progress bar reset if i Leave HTG? :p A: As stated in the ticker: Your progress in the Haunted ‘Terrortories’ will not be reset if you leave the area. Feel free to travel! According to the Dev’s during last FBF, your progress will rest after you catch the final “Boss”-mouse in the Haunted areas.
Q: Do you have to fill both the treats & tricks to get into the Manor to move out of the Corn Maze? A: Both trick and treat bar should be filled in order to progress.
Q: What trap to use in the Manor? Acronym or ABT? An easy solution please? A: There are more mice of Shadow weakness in here. But there are also Monsters here, and you might want to try catch those with a physical trap ^^ So no easy solution here! Latest info in, for the Haunted Manor, the Acronym seems to be the best trap. A strong physical setup should get you trough as well.
Q: And how to get these new mice and the new Traps?… A1: There are 140 squares. You will find the very last square of both the trick and treat row slightly bigger. They represent the Trick and Treat mouse, and they will probably drop Loot … but: A2: Still a bit early for to have all answers… Come and help us find out!
People are using SB to attract Hollowheads (who are more attracted to SB), since they drop special cheese. Using SB does NOT count toward the progress bar (as it’s no trick nor treat – somehow), just allows people to get the cheese that does.
Next to the tits and bits i have gathered you may wanna keep track of this one: Unofficial Guide to the Haunted TerrorTories – being updated on the go
= To be Continued =
* Tiny Answering section on the Gifting so far:
– You can send 1 free gift per friend per day, up to a total according to your rank.
– Go to your friends profile page and click on the pink Gifting button next to the Daily Raffel ticket-button.
– You can claim/accept only 3 gifts each day.
– Gifts of the day can only be accepted on the day they are sent.
– Open your Pumpkin gift basket from the ‘special’ tab under ‘inventory’.
Pumpkin Treat baskets; contain collectibles (such as toy spider or empty candy wrapper etc.) or Ghoulgonzola cheese or Candy Corn cheese
Baronnes: Your current title allows you to send 14 free gifts per day.
Count: Your current title allows you to send 15 free gifts per day.
We can also give the special cheeses to friends the old way, not as a gift but from our inventory: The drop down-menu when “gifting cheese” reveals that now Candy Corn and Ghoulgonzola can be given to friends. Due to this feature, some trading of the cheeses has now started. Be careful though with whom to trade, as this option is in essence a gifting-option! No guarantees!
* Come join the HitGrab community at forum.hitgrab.com
This announcement on the HitGrab website helped me find a lot of information last night, we would otherwise find in the Mousehunt Forums on Facebook.
THE newspost about the Halloween update was posted in the new off-FB-forum before the FB-Mousehunt-Forums came back again: http://forum.hitgrab.com/showthread.php?449-Halloween-Trick-AND-Treat-Event!
Earlier this week this was the new Ticker statement. Now what’s this all about? But it sure is a good way to take our attention to the ToS or regulations. I didn’t read them thoroughly before so i can’t point out what has changed recently…
What did stood out to me was this one though:
“Updates can sometimes alter certain elements of the properties in question. You agree that any calculated change is most likely for the betterment of the community at large, and that you will not become hostile or unpleasant to deal with if an update occurs which you do not enjoy…”
But since the update i have a little gut-feeling what this ticker-statement was to be about:
* When you get a Warning message in journals
Here come the Less Fun bits of the update, and it’s really good to be aware of it! The devs have said:
“In this update we have improved the way our cheat detection system works. The messages sent out in your journals are done as warnings when the system “thinks” that the user is bending the rules. We mean no offense with this warning, but it is just our way to let you know that something on your system is triggering our cheat detection. If you are not aware of anything, then you may want to check your system for any programs that may be running that you are not aware of. Also check that you have no page re-loaders running — these are usually browsers plug ins when you have Mousehunt open. If you are intentionally running a script, bot or auto re-loader then please stop. There is no such thing as a safe script and any scripts are used at your own risk. If you still have any questions about this, please contact Support by using the Support button at the top of any Mousehunt page and someone will review your account. Due to the back log, it may take some time, so please be patient.”
* Inaccurate gold/points stats & other unexpectedness
Due to unforeseen circumstances some people lost some of their stats. This can be restored. Please contact Support by using the Support button at the top of any Mousehunt page and someone will review and restore your account’s stats. Due to the back log, it may take some time, so please be patient.

Go & Read this info especially if you run into unexpected stuff!
* Mousehunt Price stuff announcement:
Future it says on the newspage of Mousehunt Rewards. So i don’t expect it to be mixed in with this Halloween event as of yet. Just to short-circuit some rumors.

* Last but not Least:
Do you think that manor is on pontoons? Just because, you know, it was a crater lake …

# Anybody who has news or wants to write a (fluffy) piece, or maybe even a whole edition of the Mibbler, can send the copy, the idea, or even just the interesting thread-adress… to my pm-box :)
# No News, no Mibbler, as there is a a very strong-headed non-fluff person on the board of advisors.
# No Fluff, well – we have to warn you here – in case of no fluff we might accidentally still post a Mibbler with strong warnings of putting on your sunglasses first before reading.
# No crew, no Mibbler. Which is really really sad. Luckily there’s always the possibility of posting your news or news-related question in the comments underneath the latest Mibbler.
